THIRD PARTY REPORTING OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT:
If you have concerns of abuse and/or neglect regarding your child or any child, you can file a report with the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline by calling 1-800-392-3738.
Please contact the Detention Superintendent for the agency investigation policy.

 

Procedures followed when juveniles are admitted to detention

  1. Basic intake forms are completed including a medical history.

  2. All house rules and advice of rights are given to the juveniles and s/he reviews these rules during check in.

  3. All personal property is inventoried and valuables are placed in a secure place.

  4. Juveniles will be searched upon arrival if not done so by a Deputy Juvenile Officer or Police Officer. Next, juveniles will be showered and provided with appropriate clothing and toiletries furnished by the Center.

  5. Juveniles may make their first phone call at any time but only to a parent/guardian or an attorney. Calls may be monitored by Detention Staff.

  6. Juveniles will be placed in as secure room and may have the opportunity to participate in school, gym and breaks (held in the Center) after the first twenty-four (24) hours.

 

House Regulations for Juveniles

  1. Juveniles are NOT allowed to smoke at the Center or have cigarettes or lighters.

  2. Juveniles will be held responsible for any damage(s) done to Center property.

  3. Entering Offices and kitchen areas are prohibited.

  4. Physical interaction between juveniles is prohibited.

  5. Physical interaction between Staff and juveniles is prohibited.

  6. Abusive language will not be tolerated.

  7. Breaks are a privilege, not a right and may be taken away due to disruptive behavior.

  8. Girls are to only sit with other girls on the couch. Boys are to only sit with other boys on the couch.

  9. Juveniles will not be waited upon and will be expected to clean up their messes.

  10. Juveniles may write letters to parents, legal guardian or their attorney only.

  11. Juveniles may receive mail from parents, legal guardian or their attorney which is inspected by Detention Staff. Letters are written in the day room only. Pencils, paper, etc. are not allowed in the cell.

  12. Juveniles are not allowed a pillow and are checked on every 15 minutes after lights out for safety reasons.

 

Miscellaneous Information

TELEPHONE CALLS: Each juvenile is permitted one (1) five minute call per day (excluding calls from an attorney or caseworker, Juvenile Officer Service Coordinator). The calls can be to or from the juvenile office, attorney or parent(s)/legal guardian only. Calls may be placed or received between business hours only for Juvenile officers, Service Coordinators, and Attorneys. Juveniles make their calls daily to Parent’s and legal guardians @ 7:00 pm.

READING MATERIALS: Juveniles are allowed appropriate paperback books and new unopened cards supplied by the Center. Items from outside are prohibited.

TOILETRIES: All basic items are provided (toothbrush, soap, shampoo, etc.). Special items cannot be supplied by the Center.

MONEY: There is no need for currency to be brought into the Center unless it was the personal property of the juvenile when admitted. During the admission process, all currency of the juvenile will be inventoried, stored, and returned once the juvenile is released from the facility.

MEDICATIONS: Only medicine prescribed by a licensed physician are allowed to be given to the juvenile by personnel. The MEDICATION MUST BE IN THE ORIGINAL PILL CONTAINER FROM THE PHARMACY and will be given only as per the instructions on the container. Basic remedies (Tylenol, Robitussin, etc.) are provided by the Center and will be administered to the juveniles as needed.
