The Juvenile Detention Center is a secure youth detention facility which holds youth who are being held on a judicial custody order, awaiting a detention hearing, placement with Division of Youth Services, or waiting release to legal guardians. Our Detention Unit is supervised by the Detention Superintendent. The Superintendent supervises all detention related issues and reports directly to the Chief Juvenile Officer. The detention staff includes an Assistant Superintendent, three shift sergeants, and eight detention officers. Currently, Jasper County Juvenile Detention Center is working on accreditation through the American Correctional Association (ACA).

The Juvenile Detention Center provides the following services to all youth housed at the facility:

  • Education (provided by Joplin School District)

  • On-site medical care

  • Visitation schedules

  • Recreational activities

  • Mental health services

  • Bible studies and religious services

  • Library services
